Receptions and Memorial Day

The Ambassador loves Basketball, so when the Harlem Globetrotters came to town, she had them to her residence for a reception. This is Skyscraper Alleyne, together with Tanya and I, and two friends from the embassy. At 7’2″ Skyscraper is the tallest player on the team. and standing next to Tanya, Skyscraper looks like he’s […]

Aliciya’s Birthday

Aliciya knew exactly what she wanted to do for her birthday this year — she wanted a costume and swimming party. So we had it at the Embassy’s Seafront compound, and she invited her friends to wear their costumes and bring their swimsuits along. She had a great time, and I think they all did, […]

Grandma and Grandpa in Manila

We were so excited to have Grandma and Grandpa Memmott come to visit. We had a wonderful time. We spent the first week in Manila, and then traveled for the next ten days. I’ll put up several posts to cover their visit. At the end of the tour, we took the “fish pedicure” with little […]

Easter

We had a couple of Easter celebrations. First, we went to the Embassy Easter Party, and Aliciya looked for eggs there (with limited success). At home, she did a bit better. But at home was the real Easter egg hunt.

Robert and Salee in Manila

Here are some photos from the past couple of weeks. These cover shopping in the pearl market at Greenhills, visiting the old fortress in Intramuros, and stops at Mall of Asia and at Baywalk at sunset. Click on the thumbnails to see larger versions of the photos.

Aliciya’s Posters

Today Florsheim gave us copies of some of Aliciya’s posters that they are using to decorate their stores. They gave us five different posters, and three of them in digital form. Though you have seen some of these photos in much lower quality in my photos of the stores, I figured you might be interested […]

Fall Out Boy Concert

I went to the Fall Out Boy concert last night. It was great! Honestly, I liked the opening act, Hey Monday, perhaps even better than Fall Out Boy, but they were both a lot of fun. And it was great to see so many young Filipinos rocking out. Unfortunately, I had to go alone, as […]

Weekend in Baguio

We went to Baguio for the weekend of February 7. As always, it was lovely. We took our friends, Anya and Sasha, and their cute little daughter Masha, and stayed at the cottage on the incredible grounds of the Ambassador’s residence there. The residence dates from before World War II. In fact, all of Baguio […]

Inaugural Ball

The Embassy held an Inaugural Ball to celebrate the transition to a new President. Tatyana had a dress made for the occasion. Unfortunately, the photos leave something to be desired, but they give an idea, anyway.
